Molly Solverson is a main character of Fargo Season 1. She is the Main Protagonist of Season 1.

Description[]

A young, smart police deputy in the small town of Bemidji, Molly Solverson was never the kind of cop who desired to land the big case or one day join the FBI. But after a series of murders rattles her town, Molly is determined to find the person behind them, even if it means doing it alone.

History[]

Early Life[]

Molly graduated from high school in 1991 and became a deputy in the Bemidji Police Department under Vern Thurman.

Season 1[]

"The Crocodile's Dilemma"[]

On January 19, 2006, Molly discovers a crashed car outside Bemidji, Minnesota, finding blood on the steering wheel and tracks leading into the woods, calling chief Vern Thurman. When he arrives, they discover a dead deer in the trunk, and Phil McCormick's frozen body in the woods.

Following the murder of Sam Hess, Molly picks up Thurman and drives to the strip club where Hess was killed. They identify his body, Molly positing the idea that it could be a mob hit based on Hess' alleged ties to the Fargo Crime Syndicate.

The following morning, Molly mentions details of the case to her father, Lou Solverson, while eating at his coffee shop. Thurman joins her and she points out to him that McCormick could not have been the driver, as there was no injury on his forehead, therefore not matching the blood on the steering wheel. Thurman, impressed, compliments her police work and tells her that she would make an excellent chief.

Molly accompanies Thurman to Hess' residence to interview his widow. As she asks a question about Hess' ties to Fargo and representative Max Gold tries to steer the conversation away from it, Lorne Malvo calls the house and manipulates Mickey Hess into beating his younger brother, which Molly is forced to break up, taking the boy to the hospital.

While at the hospital, Molly asks a nurse if they had any people come in with head injuries, and she learns that Malvo was seen talking to Lester Nygaard about Hess. She radioes Thurman and relays this information, who decides to talk to Lester himself, knowing the man personally.

While arresting Lester for the murder of his wife, Thurman radioes Molly for backup, only for her to arrive after Thurman had been killed by Lorne Malvo. She finds Pearl dead and Lester unconscious in the basement. After watching Thurman's body be covered and finding cans of paint in his trunk he was going to bring home to his pregnant wife Ida, she goes herself to tell her of her husband's death.

While ice fishing with Lou the next day, he offers to hire her at his shop, worried for her safety following the murders. She declines, and decides to go to work.

"The Rooster Prince"[]

Molly vists Thurman's grave before going to his house to attend the wake. As she helps Ida with the dishes, they trade stories, wherein Thurman's former captain was killed in a hailstorm and where Lou, during his time as a police officer, was shot trying to stop a robbery. New chief Bill Oswalt arrives, and Molly suggests interviewing Lester. Oswalt dismisses her, basing Lester's innocence off his personal experience with him, and insists that Hess' murder is tied to Fargo. Ida convinces Oswalt to go.

Molly visits Vern's grave before heading to the Thurman residence for the service. She helps Ida Thurman with the dishes and tells her about the time her father was shot and how terrified she was. After Bill arrives with the schedule to help Ida finish her pregnancy, Molly tells him they should go see Lester, which he doesn't agree with at first but is talked into it by Ida. She and Bill go over to Lester 's house to ask a few questions. Lester makes up a story which Bill believes, but Molly does not, and still has more questions but is rushed out the door by Bill. Later, she is called into Bill's office, where Bill tells her to focus on the drifter rather than interrogating the victim. As she leaves, she watches as Vern Thurman's name is scratched off the office door. She does not follow his advice, as she visits Lester while he is at the pharmacy one night. Lester tries to evade her, but she follows him out to the car as he drives away. She is later seen at Lou's Coffee Shop talking to her father about the case. Bill arrives, hearing about what happened last night, and takes her off the case and puts her on the investigation of the frozen man.
