Max Gold is a recurring character in Season 1 of Fargo. He is the lawyer for the Hess family.

"The Crocodile's Dilemma"[]
Max is first seen talking with Gina Hess and her two sons about the murder of Sam Hess. Once Vern and Molly arrive to ask Gina a few questions, they also bring up Sam's possible connection to a crime syndicate in Fargo, North Dakota. Max protests this, saying they have no right to come into the house and tell the Hess family that Sam is a criminal.
"The Rooster Prince"[]
Max meets Numbers and Wrench at Hess & Sons Transport, where the two men ask Max what happened to Sam Hess. He tells them that he was murdered at a strip club, and assigns them to find the man that did it, saying Sam was his friend.
