Ebal Violante is a character in Fargo Season 4.
Overview[]
Ebal Violante is consigliere to Donatello Fadda and architect of the Milligan Massacre. When Donatello dies, Ebal is left to deal with the Don’s two volatile sons, Josto and Gaetano.
History[]
Ebal stood behind Donatello Fadda when he faced off against Loy and the Cannon Limited. Later, when Donatello was shot with a cap gun, Ebal tried to bribe David Harvard to treat him, but Harvard refused as Donatello was Italian.[1]
Three members of the Faddas family went to shoot and kill David Harvard in retaliation, but they missed, killing only the woman he was with. When Josto ordered them to try again, Odis Weff came to them and said he could pin the shooting on someone else, but only if they waited to kill him. Ebal agreed, saying waiting a year would make it so he didn't expect it, though this upset Josto.[2]
After the Cannon Limited seized control of the slaughterhouse, Ebal met with Doctor Senator, who maintained that Donatello had agreed to it. Ebal knew that wasn't true, but after hearing about Doctor's experience serving in the war, interviewing Nazis only to have his work thrown out, Ebal decided they would respect the deal.[3]
Ebal met again with Doctor, where he learned about Calamita and Rabbi going after Lemuel, which Doctor realized he didn't know about prior to their conversation.[4]
Ebal brought Joe Bulo to see Josto. He told Josto that New York agreed to his proposal, but on two conditions. The first was to fix the thing with Cannon and the second was to make things right with his brother. After learning that Gaetano had been taken, Josto quickly gave him up for lost. However, Ebal wanted to arrange to trade whatever they had to to get Gaetano back.[5]
Ebal went with Josto to meet with Loy about Gaetano. Ebal immediately offered the slaughterhouse and trucking routes to Cleveland and Dallas in exchange for Gaetano's freedom, with the promise that Gaetano would be on the first flight back to Italy upon his release. However, Josto then stepped in and told Loy he should just kill Gaetano, saying that Satchel had been killed on Gaetano's order and it would only be fair to trade a life for a life, but instead of killing Zero, he could kill Gaetano instead. After hearing all of this, Loy ordered them both to leave. Loy later released Gaetano after telling him all the things Josto offered for his death.[6]
With Gaetano released, the two brothers reunited once Gaetano realized that Loy had intended for him to kill Josto. The only person not celebrating this reunion was Ebal.[7]
With the war raging and bodies piling up, Ebal informed Gaetano and Josto that New York wanted it wrapped up as quickly as possible as it was bad for business. Josto and Gaetano agreed.[8]
Loy went to Ebal, saying they could end the war if Ebal could get his house in order and sit down for a talk. Ebal said he'd get back to Loy. Ebal then gathered the Fadda family and they as a group concluded, with Oraetta's testimony, that Josto had Donatello executed while he was in the hospital in order to assume power. Josto tried to defend himself, but his words fell on deaf ears. Josto was taken out and killed, along with Oraetta. With both Josto and Gaetano gone, Ebal assumed power of the Fadda family. He then made it clear to Loy that he was in charge of Kansas City and Loy and his men worked for him. If they resisted, he had national backing to take them out.[9]
