I think I've seen part of an article where Noah Hawley refers to this season as having a larger scope than seasons 1, 2, and 3 combined - and this really sums up what I was thinking while watching these episodes, particularly the first of the two.
Having the story set in Kansas City broadens it in a way that feels different to all previous seasons. In those, you had these small towns and situations that were going on (which was larger in Season 2 I'd say), but just the shot of the city when the word "Fargo" first appeared gave me the sense that this was going to be quite different and new.
I'm open to seeing a story that involves a larger cast and a lot going on, and I'm quite happy with these episodes - they introduced the history of the Kansas City mafia in a very interesting way at the very beginning, and it will be exciting to follow the relationship between the Faddas and Loy Cannon's family, it seems like each has their own problems to sort out, beyond their confrontations - and then you have even more going on with the Smutny family, the two prison escapees, and that Oraetta character who seems like the wild card.
There is a lot to unpack, but I don't want to make this comment so large. Feel free to share your thoughts, or create/join other threads if you like.
